We Leave Weskolia And Follow The “Sky Road”
Foxday 4, Roc Month, Year 25 of the Golden Emperor
Dear Diary,
We left Weskolia this morning after spending two weeks helping the women there adapt to their new found rights and power. Olivia even found that, now that women were eating better and feeling less abused, a few of them seem to be developing magical skills. She instructed those women in basic magic and left them copies of her old apprentice workbooks. She even set them up with her spare Glass of Communication, which lets then get in touch with the Wizards Council back in Thenoris.
The current theory on their suppressed powers is that it was done on purpose a couple of centuries ago when only young girls began manifesting magical abilities. This makes sense, since that would threaten male dominance.
Anyway, we rode out of town on donated horses, followed by our two well laden pack mules, whom Grettin named Antra & Doko, after similar mules in an old Dwarvish children’s tale. Their packs hold a great deal of food & drink, as well as some gold, silver, and useful travel items. I must say, I am glad to be riding again. Besides my feel feeling better, we are going at roughly twice our speed on foot.
The trail we are following is called the “Sky Road”, since it leads up and over the mighty Skylifter Mountains. We estimate these mountains to be at least half again as high as the Wall Mountains, so I hope any pass we might use keeps to somewhat lower elevations.
I’m going to close for now, Diary. It’s almost time to find a spot for the night. I’ll write again as soon as anything noteworthy happens.
