The Alphabet, Female Name Edition: Yoso
Yoso Amakali is a citizen of the Pellucidar space habitat that resides in the L4 zone between Earth 41-K and the Moon. Yoso was born there 24 years ago in 2383, the 5th generation of her family to be born on the colony.
After placing very high in all of her tests at age 8, Yoso was sent to the School for the Arts, 75 lengthwise miles astern of her family home. There, she found her great love of woodcarving, which she turned into a career when she graduated 10 years later.
Using many different types of wood harvested in the nature colony that counterbalances Pellucidar, Yoso carves pieces that range from small and simple to very large and complex. Her work decorates many places on her colony, as well as the Oz, Lilliput and Gallifrey colonies. At this writing, she is doing a large table made of oak for the Solar Federation headquarters on Earth.
Yoso is 6 foot 3 inches tall, has black and yellow hair, a green eye and a red eye, and numerous small tattoos. She lives alone in a small farmhouse 30 miles antispinward of her family home. She is thinking of getting a dog or two.

The Alphabet, Female Name Edition: Zoe
Right here on good old Earth 1-A, in a suburban home in Santa Cruz, California, lives Zoe Linderwal. Zoe is a best selling mystery writer, having sold nearly 100 million copies of her 14 novels and 4 collections of short stories. Most of her novels have been made into best selling movies. She is very famous.
And she’s a dog.
To be exact, she is a tri-color female basset hound, the youngest of five born in Modesto, California back in 2009. She has two sisters and two brothers spread out across California. She and her mate, Elton are the proud parents of 10 children from 2 litters. They also have 27 grandchildren.
Zoe and Elton, who is a writer of children’s books, are sapient and out to their human parents. Mr. & Mrs. Linderwal are very proud of both of them. It doesn’t hurt that Zoe and Elton contribute $1,000.00 a month to the household.
Non-Human Terran mystery novels are never about murder unless a human is the killer. Almost of Zoe’s novels are about finding missing people or items, although she has written three that had to do with helping humans solve a crime.
He main detective character over the course of 8 of her novels is the female fox, Sinty Dovell. Humans would probably see in Sinty bits of several famous human detectives. She is often, but not always, accompanied by her scientist friend, Kinami Tresto, a cat. The novels always have a good helping of humor.
In late 2018, Zoe’s vet determined that she was going blind. As of this writing, in early 2021, Zoe has lost 80% of her vision. This has had no impact on her writing, since her older sister, a well known Mad Scientist, had placed a neural link in her brain, allowing Zoe to enter a cyberspace writing room where she can see just fine.
