Tales Of Old Mars

Critter Con 14

Con Day 2: Post party reviews, more gaming, the annual mud bath, Olde Tyme Radio and a crazy Sock Hop.

Okay, dear readers, we have a lot to talk about and not much time to do it in because we are heading out to the biggest party of the con.

Last night’s parties were all fun, but the Labrador Retriever party was hilarious and had some pretty good food. It only got funnier when a group of 6 corgis showed up.

The otter party was like a Marx Brother’s movie, a Warner Brothers cartoon, and a Mel Brooks movie got high on slapstick. We love otters, but they are all like Robin Williams turned up to 15.

The NHT Gamers Association party was very nice, had about 300 people at it, had great food, and a live band.

One of us, who is not a gorilla, may have hooked up with a very cute goldendoodle and left the party after about an hour.

The other of us may have met up with a dashing young bonobo and invited him back to her room.

Oh, and our cat and dog friends had fun at other parties, including Leon Crane getting together with a bunch of folks to run some sort of minis battle which, according to his sister Lettie, got pretty goofy after the catnip and synthehol came out.

Our humans went in two different directions last night. The first was a party for Gamers Over 50, which Grandpa described as “Old Farts talking about old games, dead friends and health issues.

The second part of the human’s night was going to the Original CritterConners Party, which is for folks who have been coming to the con since at least the third one. Apparently, it was a pretty fun get together.

Now, today, we all played a few short games, but it was also Con Friday, which means the Annual Mud Bath Trip. About 14 of us, no cats included, went to the House of Mud for a relaxing and muddy good time. When the two hours were over, we were all squeaky clean and relaxed.

It being 3:00, more gaming was done until 5:00, when Grandpa, Bryan, Gabriel, Spike, Mom, Mary, Sam and Cupcake all went over to the radio station to quickly eat some food before doing a one hour episode of “The Adventures of Doc Mystery, Canada’s #1 Crimefighter”. We (Tucker and the rest) listed to it during dinner at Chez Mom’s, and it was really good.

The radio show was over by 6:30 and everybody was back in the hotel by 7:00 to get ready for the Mystery Sock Hop Party that started at 8:00.

No costumes this year, but shoes were not allowed and you had to wear the unique sock that came in your swag bag. THEN, when you got to the party, the mystery was revealed: you had to find, and dance with, the person wearing the matching sock.

Now, 50,000 people come to this con, and about 2,000 of them come to this party, which means you might not find a match, but damn, you got to meet a bunch of folks while trying. In our group, only Grandma, Uncle Peter, Tucker and Auntie Cathy found a match. But it was a hella great party.

It is crazy late now, as in 2:15 in the morning, so we are hitting the sack. We’ll report on Saturday later.
