Out In The Woods: Are Fairies
Listen well to me, bold adventurers. While it is true that you can cut 4 days travel off of your journey by going through the Fairywood, instead of around it, there are rules you must follow to the letter! Stray from these rules even once and the Fae folk will prank you at least and ensorcel you for weeks at worst.
The first thing you must do, at the beginning of the trail, is get off of your horses and declare that you come in peace. Then each of you must toss a gold piece to both sides of the trail. After that, you may mount up and continue on.
Next, every night before you go to sleep, you must set out sweet cakes and a cup of wine. Place these out of sight from your camp. The cakes and wine will be gone in the morning. You may find berries and fruits in their place. Always eat these and remark on how tasty they are.
Run a cold camp! Do not under any circumstances start a fire. Use a light spell to see. Don’t worry about any creatures bothering you in the night. You are a guest of the Fae.
If you need to urinate or defecate, do so into a hole at least 2 feet deep. 3 feet is better. And do NOT forget to fill in the hole afterward.
Limit any uses of magic. Some Fae are very tempted by magic to commit shenanigans. You want to avoid this.
Upon leaving the Fairywood, repeat what you did upon entering, but thank them profusely and toss at least twice as much gold.
Follow these rules and you will cross the woods in 3 days.
