Out In The Woods: There’s A Treasure
Hahaha! You hear that, Slim? These fellers are goin’ to go out into Piney Ridge and look for Mexican Jack’s treasure. Hahaha!
Now listen up here, boys, it’s been 20 damned years since old Mexican Jack and his gang stole all that cash & gold and hid it somewhere in that 100,000 acres of forest. It’s been almost that long since they got caught in the shootout that killed ’em all. There weren’t no map and nobody lived long enough to tell anything. Anybody tell you different is a damned liar.
What do you think, Slim? 25-30 bunches of treasure hunters gone out there? Ain’t a damned one of then found a nickel, and more than a few of ’em died lookin’. Last bunch was that English feller and his 5 friends. Two of ’em made it back, but the Limey and two others got buried in a landslide.
What do I think happened to the gold? Well now, there’s one of two things old Jack might’a done. First off, he could’a put it in a cave. There’s several up just beyond the treeline. ‘Course, that’d be the first place people would look. And is sure was!
But most likely, he buried it right near some easy to find landmark, where it probably sits now and will until Hell freezes over. I said probably, because it’s possible he told his woman where to find it and she might’a come got it while Jack was catchin’ lead poisonin’. Just seems a bit suspicious that they found the gang so easy, and that there ain’t nobody has seen her since two days before Jack died.
