DUCKS!: Eddie
Eddie is a male mallard duck who has chosen to live in the small pond found on the grounds of Orange Hill School, in Citrus Valley, California. He has lived their since 2003. He has never had a mate and he does not migrate. The students and the staff love him and make sure he has plenty to eat and vet care should he get injured. On the 10th anniversary of his arrival, the school declared “Eddie Day”, during which children and their families partook of games and snacks and other events, all duck themed.
In the current year, 2022, Eddie is thought to be at least 20 years old. This is an extraordinary age for a duck, and a few people are getting curious about this. There is talk of taking him to a university for a thorough exam.
This will never happen. The truth is, Eddie is a human who was changed into a duck in 1904 by a witch. Her spell was cast on her lover, who tried to break off their relationship. She cursed him to be a duck for “100 years longer than I live”. That means Eddie will become human again in early 2023. He intends on leaving the school some night and flying off to spend his last days as a duck in San Francisco.
He will miss the children, though.
