Tiny Folk Of San Francisco: Talbis Squirrelmaster

The Tiny Folk are famed for using squirrels as riding and pack animals. The bond between rider and squirrel is deep and strong, but it not something that just happens. Both Tiny Folk and squirrels must be trained to work together. This requires a master teacher. Talbis is such a teacher. He’s been doing it for nearly 50 years now.

Located in the Presidio, near the San Francisco National Cemetery, Talbis lives in a tree, along with a dozen or more gray squirrels. This number can go up or down, but seldom drops below eight. With the exception of his own two squirrels, Cadol and Honey, all of the others are youngsters in training.

In the next tree over live up to ten young Tiny Folk, who are being trained along with their squirrels. Training takes a full 90 days and is not easy. However, when it’s over, rider and mount will be lifelong friends and have a psychic bond that only death can break.

Talbis is 6.5 inches tall and quite muscular. His hair is long and gray. His eyes are orange. He usually dresses in leather, with a cloth cap in the style of a beret. He is not married, but never has lacked for female companionship. A strict vegetarian, he is an excellent cook. Talbis has little free time, but when he does get some, he likes to go off exploring with Cadol and Honey.
