People Of The Solar System…: Mercurians
The mining colonies of Mercury are perhaps the most international of all the varied colonies. There, deep underground at the poles, you’ll find workers and administrators from 36 countries. Most recently added, as of 1892, were the Kenyans and Cubans.
As you might imagine, there is a great deal of cultural blending going on, which only serves to enhance the entertainment, artistic, and culinary options available to the hardworking folk nearest the sun.
Mercurians tend to be far less concerned with class, race, or religion than other residents of the solar system. They are also, by a couple of orders of magnitude, the most unionized, which gives the tiny planet an outsized clout in the Solar Federation.
