The passing thought of death brought his mind back to Walen and Safiq. The Offroaders did not wail and cry, when their friends and family members died, unlike the Townies and, to a lesser extent, the Roadbound. Out in the Wide Open, death was always a possibility, no matter if you were a Nomad or an Imperial. There were wild beasts, natural disasters, poisonous plants, disease and other Offroaders, any one of which might kill you. Dead was dead and all you could do was chant the death chant for the fallen and miss them as you got on with your life.
