Carso sat down on the grass. He nodded his head and said, “Yes, I’m sure. I found it a couple of months ago, up near Long Bay City, not far the shore of Lake Mitgan. We were camped about four hours west of the city, on a narrow stretch of the Mother Road that my papa often uses as a shortcut from Delton to Long Bay. We were right beside a small lake, really a big beaver pond, and I found it while playing. I knew it was a relic, but it wasn’t like any relic I ever heard of. It was maybe two feet long and an inch thick and made of glass or crystal. Inside it, there were lots of streaks of different colors that ran every which way. And it was warm, Dree, as warm as the Road on a cold night.”
