The Quiet Ducks Taste Best

…yum yum

Short Movie Review: Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End

This movie had the same basic problems as the third Spider-man film: too long, too many plot devices/characters, not a tight script. It was ok, since any movie with Johnny Depp and Geoffry Rush giving over the top performances is at least watchable for that, but all in all, I hope they end the franchise here. Note: The trailer for The Golden Compass looks WAY cool. Definitely something to look forward to this December.

Short Game Session Review

Today’s AD&D 1st Edition session was action packed, but rather more quickly run than I normally would like. I blame myself for this as I was not fully revved up for the game. Still, the party finally made it out of the training dungeon (accidentally depowering a major demon along the way) and then went to the Isle of the Fae to free the Summer Queen from imprisonment by the Autumn Queen. Fun was had, dice were rolled, snacks were eaten and we’ll all get togethen for the next adventure in 3 weeks.

Short Garden Review

Having trimmed the tall weeds and rampant poppies & bachelor’s buttons (aka blue cornflowers) from the hillside, I discovered several plannts I planted last fall…all of which were struggling to survive, but are now doing fine. These include a third orange monkey flower…a purple calibrachoa (aka million bells)…two clumps of ornamental grass…and a purple trailing lantana. Woo Hoo! I also went to the Fair Oaks Public Garden and availed myself of about 100 pounds of their excess woodchip/pine needle mulch, which they have several tons of. I shall use said mulch, along with mucho newspaper and cardboard, to both smother weeds and prepare some new beds for assorted botanical wonders.

  1. Agree about PotC III. I’d be happy to see it end there. Or at least whittle it down to just Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush doing pirate stuff in any future installments. I’m so done with Knightly and Bloom.
Very much looking forward to Golden Compass. I agree, the preview looks excellent. I think Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman are very well cast and the effects look solid.
People laughed out loud at the trailer for National Treasure 2 at our PotC screening. I thought the first one was fine bubble gum family fun, suitable for taking Kate to, but I didn’t need a part two.

    1. Yeah, National Treasure 2 looked like another pointless sequel that I’ll rent from Netflix someday when I’m bored.
Another plus for Golden Compass is Sam Elliot. He’s one of my fave actors and I just love listening to that Texas drawl of his.
