A Fantasy Town: Cold Bay
Population: 2,000 90% human, 10% dwarves
Location: By land, at the northern end of the Old Trade Road. By sea, less than 100 miles from the Great Ice
Primary Industries: Fishing, mining
Law Enforcement: Town Guard, tough citizens
Amenities: 3 taverns, 1 inn, 1 very small hospital, 1 general store, 1 blacksmith, 1 stable, 1 bathhouse, 3 churches, 1 apothecary, 1 brewery
Notes: While Cold Bay can be a lucrative place for merchant ships selling goods or buying fish or shellfish, it is a pretty miserable place. The next nearest habitation, the village of Cwal, is 50 miles down the coast. The dwarves that mine manastones just outside of town in the Frozen Rock Hills, have their own means of transporting their valuable cargo back to Hildarin, so you’ll find no profit there.
Throwing in ice bears, snow women, the odd sea serpent, and white wolves gives you even more reasons not to go there. If you must, by all means go buy ship, since the Old Trade Road is in terrible repair for the last 150 miles, as well as being the hunting ground of Northern Great Trolls, bandits of all sorts, and recently, the white dragon Norizallivax.
