A Few New Monsters: Trader Gnome

Nobody knows where Trader Gnomes came from, not ever ordinary gnomes. The first reported interaction with one took place 460 years ago, during the Year of the Green Moon. At that time, the legendary adventurer Helanis of Povia met one just before she and her friends ventured into the Ruins of Zun. Her written account still exists, and says…

“About 100 feet from the entrance to the great ruined city, we encountered a rather strange looking gnome, being 4 or 5 inches taller than most gnomes and having a definite blue tint to both his skin and facial hair. He had with him a very large wooden chest. When asked who he was, he said his name was Tudly, and that he was an honest trader. He then asked if there was anything we needed and would like to trade for.

Since there were a few things we needed, we told him yes. He opened his trunk, climbed inside, and after about a minute climbed out with the things we needed, mostly healing potions and spell scrolls. Once our haggling over what to trade to him was done, we thanked him and began heading into the ruins. Mere seconds later, however, our wizard looked back at him, only to find he and his trunk were gone. It was the subject of much conjecture as we continued into the ruins.”

If you repeat this account several hundred times, you have pretty much every account of an encounter with a Trader Gnome. To this day, nobody knows where they come from or how the disappear.
