More Annotated Entries: Islands Of The Circle Sea: The Mox Islands

Four islands make up this group and all of them are dormant volcanoes. (This changed 6 years ago when Mox Gantu erupted for 11 days. The lava flow was moderate and pretty much ran through old lava tubes into the sea. It increased the islands size by 4 acres.) The largest island, Mox Veku, is 9 miles across. (Maximum elevation: 234 feet.) The smallest is, Mox Dolu, is 2 miles across and barely pokes up 70 feet above the waves.

All four of the islands are within 2 miles of each other. Forests of short balbo trees cover all of the islands and no mammals or reptiles live here. (Fat rabbits, native to Kalomir, were introduced, but they all died within 3 years.)Aside from the hundreds of species of birds that live here full or part time, the only other land species are sea frogs, who are found in huge numbers. (There are 5 species, 3 of whom are deadly poisonous to touch.)

The main distinction of the Mox Islands is that they are the most remote islands on the planet, lying 1,700 miles from any other island and 2,500 miles from the mainland. (Note that Ojanfo, the Drifting Island, sometimes gets as close as 800 miles.) Few ships have ever been there and nobody lives on any of the islands.
