They walked in silence until they were on the far side of the Open Exhibition. Seyan hardly glanced at the relics here, since most were fairly common items of plastic, glass and metal. They had been gathered up in the few days between the Die Off and the Cleansing, nearly 750 years ago. Those first Curators had grabbed as many different items as they could, often without any cross checking with their fellows. This had lead to the Museum starting off with hundreds of some items, but precious few of others. There were, for instance, 491 DVDs, but only 3 microwave ovens. There were 78 bicycles, but only 2 automobiles. There were many cellular phones, but almost no refrigerators. Not that any of them would ever be used or fully understood again, but you’d think the Curators back then would have tried for more diversity. And what exactly was the reason for having so many of the small statues known as “garden gnomes”, but only one statue of a human being? Of course, it had by all accounts been a hectic time, so perhaps they weren’t thinking straight.
