…really, she’s been gone for years

More Game Changers: Rewilding
Definition: The process of restoring an area of land to its natural uncultivated state (used especially with reference to the reintroduction of species of wild animal that have been driven out or exterminated).
A pretty noble idea, right? Fixing the land, healing the Earth…all great stuff. Now let’s see how it really went, by continent, on Earth 6-L starting in 2019.
How it started…
Asia: China starts rewilding 3 million acres with native vegetation, undammed streams and rivers, and reintroduced animals bred in special facilities. That last bit will be important later. They also move 4.6 million people out of the area.
A few other Asian countries follow suit, but only India tries it on a large scale, at 2.5 million acres that is almost human free, thanks to the worldwide pandemic of 2011.
Africa: From a 4 million acre “Reclaim The Desert” project in the North to several smaller projects around the continent, Africa has more land dedicated to rewilding than anywhere else. Much of what they do and use comes from China.
Europe: In most countries, the projects are smaller, but there are many of them. Russia is the largest rewilder at a total of 11 milllion acres. They, too, have been breeding animals adapted for success.
Central and South America: Brazil and Argentina have multiple projects, some quite large. The other countries have smaller projects, most of which are not fuunded well enough. The Galapagos Islands, however, become a very well funded project.
Australia: Many projects get going, including the first oceanic rewildings. They buy tech from the United States, Canada, and China.
North America: Between the 2011 pandemic and the 1988 introduction of tower farms, Mexico,Canada, and the U.S. had fewer mouths to feed and more former farmland to rewild. The biggest project was the Great Prairie Rewilding, a joint effort between Canada and the United States that was very popular. In Mexico, 5 million acres was being rewilded. All three countries used tech from the USA.
How it went…
In almost all cases, rewilding efforts went very well. In a few, things went slower, but still made good progress. In some cases, things went better than expected. These were areas that used advanced genetic technology to ensure success.
The unforseen problem was, not only were the animals and plants more fertile and tougher, they were more adaptable than expected. This adaptability extended to any human bitten by parasites that managed to drink the animal blood, which were few,but enough. People began to change, slowly becoming stronger, faster, and smarter. Their children would be the same way.
By 2069, rewilded areas were thriving and human society had changed over the 50 years. The New Humans ruled things benevolently and did even more to restore the Earth. Some New Animals helped them. As of current year 2093, the planet Earth is a healthy and safe place for all of the species living there
