Doc Rates The New TV Season

Ok gang, here are my thoughts on the new televisions shows that Grace and I have been watching.

Threshold still has the most interesting characters of the three “alien invasion” series. The storyline is improving, especially after last night’s epsiode. I’ll keep watching this one.

Invasion has just about lost me. None of the characters appeal to me, the whole “small town closed off after a hurricane” thing is annoying and the aliens aren’t cool enough. I’ll be watching something else when this is on.

Surface this week had a giant sea creature SWALLOW AN ENTIRE PARTY BOAT IN ONE GULP! It was what Grace and I call a “Holy Shit!” moment. The storyline is perking right along, the aliens (if they ARE aliens) look interesting/different and the characters are getting more fleshed out. Oh yeah, I’ll keep watching this one.

Supernatural is fun, the characters are interesting and it has some really scary moments. Good monster of the week fun here, so I’ll keep watching.

Night Stalker has had one episode, so I’ll give it a chance, but the premiere story was nothing to write home about. The high point was when they digitally inserted Darrin McGavin (AKA the REAL Carl Kolchak) into a shot in the newsroom. The new Kolchak is not winning me over with his lack of humor and coolness in the face of supernatural creatures. I’ll give this show my uisual three episode chance, but it had better develop some heart to keep me.

Bones is not terrible, but it’s nothing special either. Grace likes it, but I think I’ll give it a pass.

Criminal Minds is growing on me after two episodes. It has pretty good characters and criminal nutcases doing strange naughty things. I still like CSI better, but I’ll keep watching.

So there ya go. I don’t watch sitcoms and we don’t get Showtime or HBO, so my viewing choices are not as broad as the could be. Still, not too bad of a new season of genre tv so far.
