The Stuff That’s Made Of Dreams: Dream Draught

On the Changed Earth, the magical substance known as dream draught is primarily used to link minds so that people long distances away can experience the same things. Most often these are sporting events, conventions, concerts and other large gatherings. To do this, several people known as hosts at the event (often, but not always, fairies or mutants) will take a specific recipe of dream draught at the same time that up to 100 other people drink it. A few minutes later, the 100 will enter a dreamy relaxed state, at which point they will see, hear and otherwise experience the event as though they were there. The effects last for up to 6 hours and can be repeated up to six times in a row. Dream draught is not addictive, but it is rather expensive, going for about 50 credits per dose.

Dream draught is actually made of dreams, specifically the dreams of the fae. Wizards can harvest these dreams (never more than 2-3 dreams per year per individual), concentrate them, then add them to certain plant extracts and water at a rate of one part per ten thousand. The average dose of dream draught is about an ounce. Each batch of dream draught is then ready to be linked to a specific host.
