Sister Bomia’s Adventure Diary #30

We Have Our Own Adventures

Ottersday 3, Sun God Month, Year 25 of the Golden Emperor

Dear Diary,

Well, it is the morning of our fourth day and in a couple of hours, we’ll be leaving Moonbow City. The last two days have been quite an experience for the five of us. I’m going to condense things down as much as I can.

I spent this time visiting some of the houses of worship around the city. Amazingly, I found two churches dedicated to the Mother Goddess. They were rather small, but the sisters at both of them told me they had many parishioners show up on holy days. Speaking of which, their holy days are not quite the same as ours. Neither is their doctrine, but that is only to be expected, given how far apart they are from back home.

I have to admit, Diary, that it was very refreshing to speak not only with sisters of my own faith, but with holy men and women of other faiths. I lent a hand with various chores at several places. I also spent the night at the largest church of my own faith. The young sisters were quite taken with my tales of the adventuring life.

Olivia told me that she spent most of her days in either the local Wizards Guildhall, or in the library of the University. She says that the guildhall was not appreciably different from any of the ones back home. All of them seem to be filled with old wizards involved either in research on some project, or arguing with each other about everything under the sun. She did enjoy their library and their tea trolley.

Of the University, she speaks very highly, calling it the largest and best place of learning she has ever seen. The library has books and scrolls going back nearly 2,000 years. She told me she spent 11 hours there, leaving only when her sack of food was empty. I expect she will have an enormous amount of information to impart once we get home.

Grettin hired a cart to give her a tour of as much of the city as possible over two days. As is her wont, she studied the construction of buildings, roads, and anything else that caught her eye. She told us that the construction crews use a variety of interesting machines and specialized spells to build with great skill and beauty. “Almost Dwarven in quality”, she said, which is high praise from any Dwarf.

Grettin also waxed rhapsodic about the wonderful ales, stouts and wines of the city. She also tried quite a lot of the local food, proclaiming it delicious and spicy. I also gather that she did some gambling, but did not come out ahead.

Halana, as she usually does when exploring a city, found out what area the city guard, military and adventurers frequent, then went there and spent two days getting to know them, drinking, fighting, swapping stories, and consorting with ladies of pleasure. I will say that she has learned much about the city’s political structure, problems, accomplishments, and future.

Halana also managed to either buy, trade for, or draw some excellent maps of Moonbow City and the surrounding area. According to the largest map, we are less than a day away from the ocean. She also found out that the Great Road ended here. Well, started, from these folk’s perspective. At any rate, we had fulfilled our mission.

Amella, as usual, did most of her sightseeing in the dead of night, alone and stealthily. This does not mean she did not learn anything. In fact, she learned a lot about the people of this city, mostly the very wealthy and the very criminal. She also increased her personal net worth rather greatly. No doubt in the near future we will hear all about her nocturnal ramblings.

And now, Diary, our paid work might be over, but all of us want to go see the Eastern Ocean before we head home. I’ll write more once we get there.
