Pulp Villain Snapshots: The Bat
Real Name: Bryce Wayn
Location: New York
Modus Operandi: Murder of “Evil Doers”
Career Synopsis: Oh, you all know the origin story. But what if that kid had a less stable mind and a Messia complex as big as Montana? What if his faithful manservant was not a whole hell of a lot more stable? And what if “evil doers” encompassed a bunch of folks who were not evil, or even career criminals. Finally, what if The Bat only had one solution for dealing with Evil, that being death, and often a messy one?
Yeah, between 1932 and 1950 The Bat left a bloody wake of hundreds of real and percieved evil doers. These included everyone from criminal masterminds to mad scientist to mobsters to ordinary folks who just happened to piss him off. It was that last one that finally brought his insane career to an end.
On April 10th, 1950, at 4:15 in the morning, The Bat was found chained to a bed in the middle of Times Square. He had been shot three times from close range with a large caliber handgun, once each in the head, heart, and genitals. He was wearing his costume when he was killed. Next to him was a not from a young woman known only as the crime fighter called “Cat”. It just read, “This was for two low level grifters, my parents, and all the other people this son of a bitch killed. You’re welcome.”
