Legendary Snakes: Larry
Larry is the biggest rattlesnake in the world, at 8 feet 10 inches long. He is also one of the oldest snakes in the world, at age 50. Finally, he is way smarter than any other reptile. In fact, he’s probably as smart as your average dog. Larry is actually the second rattler with this name, although the humans around Norgo. Texas don’t know that. They only know that 80 years ago, in 1933, a huge rattlesnake was found by old Ted Gomez and his son, Hector. They named it Larry as they back away from it rapidly. About 3 days later, local rattlesnake hunter Dodge Gorman was found dead from a single rattlesnake bite from the huge reptile. After that, despite dozens of rattlesnake hunts and round-ups, Larry was never captured or killed. Eventually, he moved many miles away and did not encounter any humans again before he died. But one of his many progeny was a big one like him, so the legend continues. Larry has been the subject of many newspaper and magazine articles, as well as television shows, books, and even a low budget movie, “The Legend of Larry.”
