…and so was I
The Long & Winding Road
Part 31
Lower Smoking Land
And this is why the travelers smelled sulfur. This entire, very large area, is even more theremally active than Yellowstone. There are geysers, hot springs, small volcanoes, mud pots, and other geothermal features all over. The air smells like rotten eggs and almost nothing grows in this area. There is very little animal life, but there are various fire and eart based monsters here.
This stretch of The Road is 20 feet wide and made of smooth lava rock. It runs along the eastern side of this land for 175 miles, first heading north east, then at the halfway point turning almost dead east.
Sharp-eyed travelers will see a few bits of ruins every 30 miles or so. Some will be fairly close to The Road, others off in the distance.
