Chapter Forty Four: A Meeting Of The Minds

Seyan didn’t even have time to react to Dree fainting, because the crystal started glowing and then she was somewhere else.

It looked like she was standing in a large room in a log home. There were five comfortable chairs placed in a circle and each had a small side table holding a drink. As she watched, people materialized into the chairs. Three of them she did not recognize, but she had seen one of them in a painting.

“Master?” She said it too loudly and knew she must appear bug eyed and gobsmacked. “You’re alive! And young again!”

He could not suppress a good chuckle. Her reaction was almost exactly as his had been nearly a century earlier.

“Yes indeed, Seyan, I still live, though my exact appearance is not this one. But please, sit down and enjoy your drink. We have several things to discuss.” He motioned her toward a chair.

After she was seated and had taken a drink of something she had never tasted before, but was quite delicious, she looked at the other three people.

Sitting next to the GHC, who did not look a day over 20, was a young woman of a similar age. She was beautiful in a not trying to be beautiful way. Her hair was long and copper red, and she was wearing a flowing gown of reds, oranges, and touches of gold. She reminded Seyan of somebody, but she couldn’t think of who.

Opposite of the GHC and the lady sat another couple, and they looked distinctly different.

First of all, they were both quite androgynous. Seyan was not new to people who chose a path other than male or female, but these two looked like it was not quite a natural state. Then there were their eyes, which not only seemed a bit larger than normal, but reflected the light, much like many animal eyes do. They also had slightly thicker necks than was common. Finally, their skin looked odd in a way Seyan could not put into words.

The GHC spoke up.

“Allow me to make introductions. Seyan, this lovely woman is Helma, an old and very cherished friend of mine. These two are Ba’ Alinka and Wu’ Jafru. They are here representing the Star People.”

If Seyan had been bug eyed before, she must have looked much worse now as she leapt to her feet and yelled, “THE STAR PEOPLE? What the hell, Master? How is this possible?”

Helma was about to say something, but the GHC stopped her. He had always enjoyed watching Seyan figure things out.

Seyan stared at them as her words came thick and fast.

“How can they be Star People? They left hundreds of years after… Wait, wait…they never left, did they? Or, not all of them. I mean, they’ve stayed hidden well enough, or somebody somewhere would have noticed such strange looking…I’m sorry, I don’t mean that in a bad way, I just…”

Ba’ Alinka smiled and said, “It is alright. We understand. Please proceed.”

Seyan nodded.

“What I meant was…WAIT! Helma? Dree said his great grandmother was named Helma and she had red hair and had been a Storyteller in her youth and…WAIT! YOU’RE SUNSET!!!”

Her mind racing along several lines of thought, Seyan sat down in the chair rather heavily and took a long drink of the juice or whatever it was. Then she took a deep breath and tried to think of what to say next as her brain kept trying, rejecting, and then tying together bits of information and logical deduction.

She pointed at the GHC.

“How can you be alive and young again? And what is this place and how did I get here? Am I dead? And what…wait…the way you’re dressed…the colors…YOU’RE THE BIG HAWK WE KEEP SEEING! WHAT IS GOING ON?”

With that outburst, Seyan sat back in her chair and awaited some damned answers.
