Good Dogs: Melvin
Breed: Basset Hound
Melvin’s human mom, Lanisa, was going to be married in the morning. Her two sisters and her two best friends were with her at her apartment trying their best to stop her fromhaving a nervous meltdown. They had some drinks ready and food and music going, but Lanisa was just too scared/excited/worried to relax.
This was a job for Melvin, her 2 year old Basset Hound. He was her baby and always made her laugh. So tonight, he decided to do just that!
Well, actually, he decided to grab Auntie Neety’s sandwich when she wasn’t looking. Like a short legged 45 pound rocket, he ran up, grabbed the sammie, and took off. Neety jumped up and yelled. The chase was on!
As Melvin rounded a corner, Auntie Linda tried to grab him, but missed and stumbled into Neety. Both of them fell to the floor in a tangle of arms and legs, yelling. Melvin did not look back. Then he saw Aunties D’ Nica and Lu ahead of him. He turned sharply to the right, but lost his footing and slid into the aunties, bowling them over backward onto the sofa. Melvin got back up, sandwich still firmly in his mouth and took off. He could hear his mom laughing.
At this point, Auntie Linda was up off the floor and chasing Melvin down the hall toward the bedroom. He ran up the doggie stairs onto the bed just as Linda entered the room and stepped of two squeaky toys that let out loud noises. She yelled really loud and Melvin shot off the bed and back down the hall, running between the legs of Neety, who was rushing into the bedroom in time to trip over Linda.
When he got back to the living room,Melvin headed toward Mom, who was now laughing hysterically. Jumping in her lap, she hugged him and told him to eat his sandwich. The aunties all got more food and drinks. They agreed that despite their minor bruises, this was good for Lanisa.
The next day, wearing a doggie tuxedo, Melvin was Best Dog at the wedding of his mom and his new dad, Anthony.
