No Fried Rice For You, Spade Marlowe

Yet More Assorted Stuff

Our Saturday trip to Six Flags Marine World was fun, despite neither Grace nor I being rollercoaster riders and the rather rundownness of the animal exhibits. Still, the animal shows were fun and the butterfly habitat was way cool, as such things always are. Oh, and the picnic was good, if rather windy.

I should be blanching and freezing squash, making pesto and cooking tomato sauce…but our freezer is FULL! Packed full! No more room at the friggin inn, baby! So, on Tuesday I’ll drive up to my mom’s house and buy her mini freezer from her. And to think, I haven’t even planted the winter spinach crop yet.

Well, GenCon is mere days away and, unlike last year, I’m feeling twinges of sadness at not going this year. I might call a cell phone friend or two, just to get a live update on all the coolness I’m missing. Oh well, there’s always next year.

Bedtime calls…more blogospheric stuff later.

  1. Pesto freezes very well indeed. I make tons of it every year, cos the more you trim basil plants, the more leaves they produce. As for squash, try sauteeing it with tomatoes, rosemary, oregano, garlic, salt and a splash of good red wine.
For a totally asskicking soup, bake your fave winter squash (butternut is fine)…roast two or three red bell peppers…scoop the baked squash flesh into a blender…add the roasted, peeled and seeded bell peppers…sweat some garlic in butter, then pour it into the blender…add a bit of nutmeg…add some half & half…puree it all…pour the pureed stuff into a pot…heat it up…salt to taste…eat it.
As for GenCon, well, Spike and I will be there next year, you betcha. Along with our spouses. And child (in Spike & Mary’s case). And dogs (in the case of Grace and I).

    1. Thanks for recipes! Sue sounds very interested. Who knows… maybe I’ll convince her to try GenCon next year. She’s mostly a filker, rather than a gamer, but I’ll try and influence her. HehHeh
