The Alphabet: L is For…Looney Tombs

Looney Tombs is a card game from Looniversity Games of Earth 1-B. The premise is that players are 19th century archaeologists seeing who can loot a tomb for the most treasures. Besides room and treasure cards, each player turns over threat cards that reveal curses, traps, scorpions, cultists, heat, sand, and mummies. These cards all do different bad things to all the players. Luck and equipment cards help players avoid or even cancel threats.

The base game has 84 cards, can handle 2 to 6 players and takes about 30-45 minutes to play.

The Alphabet: L is For…Liskalatorvix

On the Changed Earth, all cities and most large towns have a resident dragon. The dragon is a symbol and a protector of that city. For the city of Denver, that dragon is Liskalatorvix.

Liska, as she is known around town, is a Greater Green Mountain Dragon. She measures just about 250 feet long and has a 300foot wingspan. If need be, Liska can breathe green fire that melts metals, but has no effect on flesh or cloth. She can also emit a roar that causes terror in any species she chooses.

Like all dragons, Liska can assume an ordinary sized human form, which she does so as to more easily interact with other species. While in this form, she lives in a penthouse apartment in Denver’s Art District.

In her spare time, Liska enjoys teaching nature classes to young children, going out to parties, playing QuestWorld on the internet and eating pie.

The Alphabet: M is For…Miles Down

On Earth 1-F, Miles Down was one of the greatest jazz musicians of the mid 20th Century. Born June 7th, 1930 in Naples, Italy, to parents from Kenya, he moved with his family to London at the age of 2. It was there that he first heard American jazz and was hooked for life. At age 5, his father got him a trumpet and lessons. Miles proved to be a prodigy and was playing in the local pub by the time he was 7. He soon moved from the trumpet to clarinet, then saxophone. He recorded his first album at the age of 13 and was making money as a session musician and sax player in a dance band. In 1946, at the age of 16, he left England and came to New York.

In New York and across America, big bands were just starting to fade, but Miles still played in several. By 1949 he was on the west coast and playing with a bebop band in San Francisco. He had, since coming to the US, recorded 3 albums of his own and 8 more with various bands.

In 1951, Miles formed a quintet called “The Downbeaters”, but it broke up after only 6 months. His next band, “The Miles Down Group”, would stay together for 22 years, mostly playing a fusion of jazz, blues and swing. They would record 14 albums, 9 of which would go gold.

In late 1973, the band played their farewell concert in New York and Miles began a 3 year hiatus from performing. During that time, he and his wife and children traveled around the world. When they returned in 1976, he recorded the first of three totally solo albums on which he played all the instruments. All of them went platinum and he won Grammies for each.

Miles continued to perform and record until 1990, when he died suddenly of a heart attack.

The Alphabet: M is For…M’Tumbo

On Earth Prime (our Earth), there is a well hidden city in Africa that is inhabited by Non-Human Terrans, or sapient animals. That city is Gorilla City, population 52,000. 40,000 of the residents are gorillas and M’Tumbo Bell is their Director of Arts & Sciences.

M’Tumbo is 15 years old, still young for an NHT gorilla. He is not yet a silverback. Although gorillas seldom wear clothing, he always wears either a scarf tied around his waist or a knit cap. Both of them were given to him by Silky Dawn Cross (a dog and the first NHT on our planet) and are his most prized possessions. He holds dual Doctorates in Biology and 20th Century Human Music.

As Director of Arts & Sciences, M’Tumbo oversees everything from art programs for children to concerts to science fairs to the operation of government science projects. This keeps him and his staff of 40 very busy.

M’Tumbo Bell is unmated, but has a relationship with Miss Keema Spring. In his rare free time, he enjoys painting landscapes and watching Crazy Game matches.
