Sister Bomia’s Adventure Diary

We Make A Hasty Exit

Wolfsday 2, Roc Month, Year 25 of the Golden Emperor

Dear Diary,

Our time in the side tunnel, with most of us in the Bag of Huge Capacity, lasted for nearly 5 hours. Those Zargoblins do not give up easily!

Once we could make our way back to the Road, we moved with great haste to put as much distance as we could between us and the village. After a few hours, we were all tired and ready to sleep. Olivia set up wards that would wake us if anything approached and I recited the Blessing of Safe Sleep. In less than 5 minutes, we were all asleep.

Having gotten a good night’s sleep, we ate a hearty breakfast and resumed walking. By midday, we could smell and feel fresh air blowing gently through the tunnel. This raised our spirits and we began singing, quietly, several popular hiking songs.

A few hours later, we came to a part of the tunnel that had many cracks in the walls, some wide enough to ride a horse through. We all immediately went on the alert and drew our weapons. This proved a sound move when the slime zombies attacked.

Now, Diary, slime zombies are not undead. They are instead creatures that have been attacked and taken over by the thick yellow slime that now coats their bodies. They are not terribly fast or strong, but they are relentless in their attacks. Magic of most sorts has little effect upon them, and weapons are not much better unless you can damage the head and brain.

There were a dozen slime zombies, all former zargoblins. While Olivia drove some of them back with a Withering Heat spell, Amella threw acid at them and Halana, Grettin and I did our best to bust heads. This was not easy because we also had to avoid contact with the slime.

When we finally had enough of them either dead or driven back, we made a break down the tunnel. We got well ahead of them, but decided to just keep running for as long as we could because, as Halana put it, “those slimy bastards don’t give up the chase easily.

We were slowing down when we finally saw the mouth of the tunnel. It was night out, but our hearts were filled with joy to see the green and silver moons and all of the stars. We left the tunnel and walked another couple of miles. The desert was giving way to grass covered hills. In the distance, we could see a great mountain range. We came upon a small river and, after following it upstream a bit, found ourselves in a lightly wooded area near a large pond. We decided this was a good place to camp.

Well, Diary, my turn at First Watch is almost up, so I’ll be putting you away and waking Grettin. I’ll write more soon.
