Well, That Was Unexpected: Big Slime

“Attention everyone, attention! I’m Harak Mountainson, and these are my friends Sister Celara, and Tobo Brewer. The two others of our party who passed through at such a fast pace, were Sir Paulis of Greatvale and the Wizard Malfenious. They are making all possible haste toward the Wizard Sanctum so as to enlist the entire Wizard’s League in battling a red slime of gargantuan proportions that is heading this way.

Calm down, please! You have several hours before it reaches this town. We suggest that you take only what you will need for a couple of days, since red slimes only eat the flesh of humanoids and leave everything else unharmed, including farm animals and poultry.

No, no, sir, you’re thinking of a gray slime, which leaves flesh and blood creatures alone because it only dissolves metal. Bad creatures to encounter, but now what chased us out of Blackmound Cave, I assure you.

Yes, young fellow, we went to Blackmound Cave seeking the lost treasure. We found bits of it in the upper levels, but as we entered the lower levels, we suddenly found that the bulk of the treasure was surrounded by a huge slime. It’s presence also explained the lack any bodies inside the clothing and armor we had been finding.

Now, normally, if one backs away from a slime, even a large one, it does not follow you. This one, however, must have not fed in a long while, since it began oozing toward us almost immediately. Of course, we made a hasty retreat toward the surface.

Yes, ma’am, you can travel either north or south. The slime seems to be heading west toward the more populated lands.

As I was saying, the slime was after us, but we got outside to our horses a couple of minutes ahead of it. We are riding at a trot when it came out into the sunlight and not only kept op the chase, but significantly increased it’s speed! We increased to a gallop and headed down the trail.

Sadly, in our hurried state, we took not the trail we had taken to get there, but a trail that lead through the Orcan Hills, and specifically, the Orcish town of Skadernuf, population formerly 3,000. We rode straight through, shouting warnings and dodging thrown items. The Orcs failed to heed us and must surely have been devoured. We later passed through two Orcish villages, which I’m sure suffered a similar fate.

As you know, slimes increase in size the more they eat, so this one is now roughly three times the size of your fine church over there. Actually, it may be a bit larger. We have not taken time to measure it.

So yes, good people, do abandon this village. Head out on either the north or south road. As I said, you should be able to come back in a day or…what, lad? Only 3 miles from here? Damn, it’s moving faster!

Run! Run like demons are behind you! My friends and I shall lead the slime westward!
