A World Without…: Violence
“Yes, the aliens landed just after WWII, in 1946, and put a stop to war and, really, all sorts of aggression. We still aren’t sure how they did it, but within a week, people all over the world who had been in conflict started feeling terrible pain when they tried to be violent versus other.
And it wasn’t just military folks. No, it affected criminals, hate groups, just anyone with violent intentions. Quite a number of politicians and businesspeople left their positions, too.
Eventualy, it began affecting everyone. Violence against another was just too painful to risk. Some people who had severe mental problems either went catatonic or committed suicide. Within five years, most of the world’s militaries were being dismantled and violent crime was almost unheard of. By 1960, the world was safer than it had ever been, athough there were still bumps.
Men of all ages were having physical and mental issues. It seems that the ingrained need to be violent was reacting to being suppressed. To deal with this, the governments of the world devised the World Games, a system of local, regional and international contests where men competed to accomplish tasks. Some were team tasks, but most were individual tasks. Many involved survival in rough conditions. It really helped a lot.
Women? Oh, yes, we had violent tendencies, but of a much lower level. Women found that problem solving and creating helped. Women in businesses and the sciences increased dramatically.
So now, 6 generations later, our world is peaceful and has has so many advances and problems solved. Our space exploration alone shows how things have gone.
And now, sir, I’ll have to insist that you return to your reality before you infect us.”
