A California Kid & Spider Story: The Hot Job
This is the story of an art heist that takes place during a Fourth of July party, and what each person in the team was doing.
Moon
Moon looked and acted exactly like the kind of catering staff that the Senior Senator from Texas liked to have working for him in a service position: Hispanic, young, not Americanized, poor, and not too smart. Moon played the part very well.
In fact, Moon was in his third year at university and was heading toward an eventual doctorate in Anthropology. He was also a skilled rock climber, gymnast and long distance runner. He had joined this band of thieves last summer and was by now quite well off financially. This would be his last job, as his contract was up in two weeks. He’d miss the thrills.
Moon was 5′ 5” tall, of slender build, and very average looks. He had no real identifying marks. He was, by his own admission, “the poster boy for your average twentysomething Mexican.” Moon was totally okay with that.
Having been here since noon, he had been getting his drink cart in order, helping others set things up, and since 3:00, taking drinks and snacks around to the off duty and retired police officers that were serving as extra security for the night. Cops being cops, not a one of them passed up free food or drink. By the end of the night, they would wish they had.
It was 3 hours until showtime.
