It’s Not On The Map: Castle Izgul
“Oh, you want to know why Castle Izgul can’t be found on any map? Well, what’s it worth to you, Missy? Yes, yes, discuss it with your friends, but don’t insult me with some low figure.
100 Drakes? Well, that is most generous. So here’s the story, straight from the wizard who took the job of hiding that wicked place from it’s uncountable enemies. It was 30 years ago that King Angus Izgul sent his representative to me with an offer of 5,000 Drakes for a spell that would make his castle impossible for his enemies to find. Being younger and seriously low on funds, I jumped at the chance and went off to the castle.
I’ll not go into specifics about that den of iniquety, but I assure you, it was a terrible place. The King essentially ran a massive criminal operation out of it, which raked in huge amounts of money and treasure, all the better to fund his depraved indulgences. After a month there, avoiding leaving my rooms as much as possible, I was near to having the spell ready. And then, the King told me that he would only be paying me 2,000 Drakes and I would like it or go into the dungeon.
Despite my anger, I kept my tongue and went ahead with completing the spell. On an evening when everyone else was celebrating the King’s birthday, I told him that the spell was ready and I would cast it early in the morning. The King was pleased and told his right hand man to accompany me outside in the morning and watch me cast the spell.
Which he did, being impressed as the entire castle began to fade away into apparent invisibility. And then he drew a dagger to kill me with. Sadly, he got no chance to use it after I blasted him with Weng’s Greater Transformation and turned him into a squirrel. I then walked to the road and caught a ride to Okluna with a really rather pleasant family of turnipfarmers.
But you want the particulars of the spell. Well, having found out that I was to get cheated, I altered the spell so as to make the castle invisible, shrink it and everything in it by 99%, and have it reside in a meadow near a stream on the far of island of Vivez. The inhabitants can leave the castle to gather food and water, but because Vivez is a land full of large dangerous beasts, that’s about all they can do. But don’t feel too bad for them, ladies, because they only age 1 year for every ten that pass.
Now, having dashed your hopes of finding the castle, might I at least offer you a job gathering some pretty rare spell components for me? The pay is good, and I offer a 50/50 split on loot found.”
