That First Comic Book Meme

Altho I no longer read or buy comic books, from the age of about 5 until I was in my mid 20’s, I was a comic book fan.

The first comic book I can clearly remember reading…the one that had me saying “Ooh! Gotta have more of this!”…was a Batman comic that belonged to my 7 year old cousin. I had read Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics before, but this Batman dude was pretty cool. The time was, I think, Thanksgiving of 1959. I’m pretty sure that the issue of Batman (or Detective, I’m not sure) was at least a year old when I read it.

After that, I would have my mom get me a Batman or Superman comic whenever she went grocery shopping in town. Later on, I’d graduate to Justice League, Flash, Adventure and many other DC titles. Still later, I found out about the whole Marvel stable and that pretty much was that.

To this day, Batman is still my favorite superhero.
